Be stylishly cool this summer in Paul Frank tshirts

Posted on May 8, 2008 in the Paul Frank category

Sometimes it seems that there’s some sort of unwritten rule that every item of clothing associated with alternative clothing must have a certain percentage of black on it for it to be valid for wear…but why should there have to be? It’s alternative, therefore it must be stylish, original, and break some of the unwritten laws of fashion.

I just love Paul Frank, the designs on the tshirts are clever and just downright cute and adorable.

The designs usually involve the adorable monkey, Julius, in some form or another. Whether he’s blowing bubblegum bubbles, listening to music or even flying across the tshirt in a wave of popcorn, the tshirts are usually always amusing in some way or another.

Now that the summer months are fast approaching (for some people it’s already arrived) take a break from wearing black and try pink or blue. As we all know, black absorbs heat..and it’s a bit hard to look stylish while you’re trying hard not overheat.

And for those of you persistant enough to brave the heat in black, there’s always the Censored tshirt which is always a good choice. I just love the way that Julius’s eyes are censored, makes me wonder what kind of look he was giving someone…Sexy? Dirty? Wildly innappropriate? You decide.

Show your insanity with tshirts from Disturbia

Posted on May 5, 2008 in the Disturbia category

I LOVE Disturbia.

There’s no two ways about it, I absolutely freaking love them. The dry sense of humour that they use in their tshirt designs pretty much matches my own, and it’s clever how they make fun of well known companies, using fonts and images associated with them, and twisting it to make it amusing.

Some of the other tshirts that they feature, at a first glance look normal however, at a second glance you notice something about them that’s a bit odd and out of the ordinary something so subtle that it takes a while to notice. For example, the gun tshirt at a first glance just looks like a red and black gun design printed onto a white tshirt, however on closer inspection it becomes apparant that the tshirt is inside out.

The “Very Metal” tshirt is also a personal favourite of mine. The design appears to be spray painted onto the shirt, the font is quite fitting with the claim of Metal….however the design is on a light pink shirt. A colour which most people claiming to be metal would be highly unlikely to be seen wearing.

The vast Disturbia range is well worth a look as there’s something there for pretty much anyone…just make sure that you have an open mind and a sense of humour as people without could get slightly offended (although this is extremely unlikely…technically it still could happen).

Turn heads with the beautiful Clara dress by Motel

Posted on May 4, 2008 in the Motel category

Like many people, I sometimes get bored of wearing trousers. I want to feel feminine

What better to wear than a gorgeous dress that not only flatters your shape but gives you that burst of colour that makes you stand out from the crowd.

The Clara dresses from Motel are stunning, flattering the female form while still giving the wearer that edge of individuality. Choose from either a floral print, red or green. The black heart-shaped hemline and the black fabric belt gives a contrast to the bold colours of the dress itself while still managing to be elegantly striking.

The runching at the back of the dress ensures a perfect fit and also helps to keep the dress up. Let’s face it, no one really wants their dress to fall down halfway though a party or a shopping trip…no matter how amusing it may be at the time.

Stop traffic with fluoro belts from Lowlife

Posted on May 3, 2008 in the Lowlife category

As you may have realised by now, I have a bit of an obsession with neon. It’s vibrancy just draws me in and I feel a compulsion to buy pretty much anything that’s bright enough to blind most people.

As many of you should know, a belt is an essential fashion accessory, either to preserve your decency by keeping your trousers from falling down or just to make a statement. Belts are also a love of mine, the ones I own being in constant use, however I will advise people not to stand near someone wearing a studded belt in a mosh pit…I have scars from making that mistake.

Lowlife are a fantastic brand. Their neon belts are the perfect accessory to any outfit giving the much needed injection of fluoro to the dark colours that a lot of people associate with the alternative fashion scene.

With neon pinks, oranges, greens and blues, these belts are a must have for anyone. I definitely have my eye on a couple.

Set the trends and stand out from the crowds with tshirts from Durkl

Posted on May 2, 2008 in the Durkl category

I adore bright, mental colours and patterns which steal a second glance from most passers by.

When I came across the amazing tshirt designs that Durkl have, I instantly fell in love. With the great unisex designs and fits, Durkl really are a great brand for everyone….so I’d advise stocking up on these great tshirts!

On the Splatter tshirt, the madness of the splatter print makes it an instant favourite of mine, as do the colours of the splatters which contrast against the black of the tshirt, making the vivid colours stand out more.

The second tshirt by Durkl that I saw was the yellow pump it up shirt. Which, let’s face it, is eyecatching to say the least! I love the bright yellow of the tshirt itself and the design makes me instantly want it. I think it’s safe to say that my colour fix for the day has been firly satisfied.

It would be Criminal to not make a statement in these jeans

Posted on May 1, 2008 in the Criminal Damage category

Jeans, as we all know, are an essential clothing item in any wardrobe (or, if you’re like me, on the floor).
I practically live in my jeans and am likely to be seen in most places wearing my skinnies.
Criminal Damage has been one of my favourite brands for a number of years (one of my favourite hoodies is by them, and I even chose Criminal Damage for my prom dress, preferring to be different rather than following the crowd).

When I saw the range of colourful jeans by Criminal Damage, my heart skipped a beat. The vibrant colours catered to my various ‘colour cravings’ giving you a rainbow of colours fit for just about any occasion, mood or just a general need to be individual. Also in the range of coloured jeans there is one pair that the individual inside of me reaches for, Zebra Stretch in pink.

The amount of choice and colour in this range of jeans makes it able to cater to such a wide variety of people and allows them to make a bold statement simply by wearing a pair of jeans.

I particuarly like the pink zebra print jeans as they are eyecatching, although with a very simple pattern enhanced by the brightness of the colour.

I do admit though, that I was slightly disappointed by the lack of orange jeans in the range (which would’ve completed the rainbow), however the bright yellow made up for that giving me the much needed colour fix (as did the red, green, aqua, electric blue, indigo and purple).

Converse All Star Multi Eyelet

Posted on April 30, 2008 in the Converse category

I have always been a huge fan of converse, my own pair (a pair of the, ever popular, black All Stars) are in constant use and look fairly battered now. Having been my favourite shoes for about 2 years.

Converse are one of the most popular brands of shoes both nationally and internationally and remain a firm favourite in the alternative fashion scene.

The Converse All Star Multi Eyelet are a variation of the traditional All Stars with an amazing, eye-catching look. The multiple eyelets give them a unique twist, giving the laces a few extra holes to be threaded through giving the shoes even more of a unique look. The gorgeous Italian Plum of the shoe itself makes these Converse an instant add to my Birthday and Christmas wish list.

The bright pink of the laces make me fall firmly in love with these shoes and the simple, yet effective idea of threading the laces through some of the extra eyelets gives the shoes that edginess that most people into alternative fashion crave. I’d love to wear these to a gig or concert in summer as the multiple eyelets would allow the shoes to breathe better than the more traditional converse, however I wouldn’t advise stepping in too many puddles in them.
